Summary
Stargardt disease type 1 causes progressive loss of central vision. A Netherlands registry estimated annual incidence at 1.67–1.95 per million and 2018 prevalence at approximately 1 in 22,000–19,000. These estimates should not be treated as equivalent to the sponsor’s estimate of 53,000 affected people in the United States. A Brazilian study compared 41 participants with Stargardt disease with 46 healthy volunteers and reported impaired vision-specific quality of life and functional vision.
