Summary

LipP1 tested pritelivir 5% w/w ointment applied 5 times daily for 4 days, a topical formulation other than the approved 100 mg tablet. It enrolled healthy adults with recurrent herpes labialis and excluded immunodeficiency disease and HIV infection, a population outside the labeled indication. Of 362 randomized participants, 223 treated a recurrence and 139 had no outbreak. Non-ulcerative recurrences occurred in 21.8% of participants receiving pritelivir ointment and 16.4% receiving placebo ointment (P = 0.4294). The comparison with Zovirax cream was planned as descriptive. The registry posts no results for secondary endpoints and records an agreement that restricts publication without the sponsor's consent.
